We’re growing and looking for a Senior Node.js Engineer who can bring deep technical experience to our team and help architect and build complex, production-grade systems.

The Role

This is a senior engineering position for someone who has experience building complex, distributed applications using Node.js, TypeScript, APIs, and microservices architecture.

We’re not simply looking for someone who can complete tickets or build endpoints. We need an engineer who understands how the decisions made today affect security, performance, maintainability, and scalability years from now.

You’ll help make architectural decisions, design services and APIs, solve complex integration challenges, review code, establish engineering standards, and work closely with frontend, QA, DevOps, product, and other senior technical team members.

Because our solutions operate in highly regulated environments, you’ll also need to understand what it means to engineer software where compliance, security, privacy, auditability, and data protection must be considered from the beginning.

What You’ll Do

• Architect and build complex backend solutions using Node.js and TypeScript.

• Design and develop microservices, APIs, distributed services, and event-driven systems.

• Make architectural decisions around scalability, resilience, performance, security, and maintainability.

• Design secure integrations between internal services, third-party platforms, and external APIs.

• Build systems that appropriately address compliance, privacy, security, data governance, and audit requirements.

• Design authentication, authorization, access controls, logging, monitoring, and audit trails.

• Work with SQL and NoSQL databases and make sound decisions around data architecture.

• Design systems for failure, including appropriate retry strategies, fault tolerance, observability, and recovery.

• Identify performance bottlenecks and troubleshoot complex production issues.

• Write and maintain automated unit, integration, and service-level tests.

• Participate in architectural discussions and challenge technical decisions when a better solution exists.

• Conduct code reviews and mentor other engineers.

• Collaborate closely with DevOps on CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, deployment, monitoring, and production environments.

• Work with QA to ensure quality is engineered into the development lifecycle rather than added at the end.

AI-Enabled Engineering

At BrainyYack, we believe senior engineers should know how to use AI to amplify their expertise—not replace it.

Our teams use Cursor, BugBot, and AI-assisted development workflows to help accelerate development, review code, identify potential issues, improve documentation, explore solutions, and reduce repetitive engineering work.

We’re looking for someone who is comfortable working this way and understands that AI-generated code still requires strong engineering judgment.

You’ll be expected to use AI intelligently while maintaining high standards for architecture, security, testing, compliance, and code quality. In a highly regulated environment, knowing when not to trust an AI-generated solution is just as important as knowing how to generate one.

What We’re Looking For

• 7+ years of professional software development experience, with significant senior-level experience building backend systems.

• Deep production experience with Node.js and TypeScript.

• Strong experience designing and implementing microservices architectures.

• Experience building complex distributed systems and high-availability applications.

• Advanced experience designing REST APIs and service integrations.

• Strong understanding of asynchronous and event-driven architectures.

• Strong knowledge of SQL and/or NoSQL databases and data modelling.

• Deep understanding of authentication, authorization, API security, encryption, and secure development practices.

• Experience designing systems with privacy, compliance, auditability, and data protection requirements.

• Experience with automated testing and modern CI/CD practices.

• Strong understanding of observability, monitoring, logging, and production troubleshooting.

• Experience with Docker, containers, and modern cloud environments.

• Ability to evaluate architectural trade-offs and clearly explain technical decisions.

• Strong code review and mentoring capabilities.

• Experience working collaboratively across engineering, QA, DevOps, product, and UX/UI teams.

• A strong sense of ownership and accountability for the systems you build.

Nice to Have

• Previous experience engineering software within a highly regulated industry.

• Experience with compliance-driven development and security frameworks.

• Experience with AWS, Azure, or other major cloud platforms.

• Experience with message queues, event streaming, background processing, and distributed messaging.

• Experience with infrastructure as code.

• Experience designing high-volume, mission-critical systems.

• Experience with application security and threat modelling.

• Hands-on experience with Cursor, BugBot, GitHub Copilot, or other AI-assisted engineering tools.

• Experience establishing AI-assisted development standards within an engineering team.
